This aims to establish conservation policy and management to protect the current diversity of the southern oceans. The BAS scientific research at Bird chambermusiciantoday.com focuses on seabird and seal population dynamics, feeding ecology and reproductive performance. The station is usually re-supplied twice a year, at the beginning and end of summer, by BAS ships RRS Ernest Shackleton and RRS James Clark Ross. Food, fuel and other supplies are brought ashore by tender and waste removed to the Falkland Islands and the UK for recycling. Because the island has no rats, there are large numbers of small burrowing birds such as petrels and prions. Temperatures vary from -10°C to 10°C, hovering around 0°C in winter and 4°C in summer.
Albatross and petrel science is busy all year, and involves a daily hike around the island over heavy-going terrain, so bird assistants are usually the fittest of the bunch. In 2006, one specimen of annual meadow-grass and patches of water blink were reported for the first time. Bird Island has many mosses, fungi, liverworts, including the ceph liverwort and Marchantia. In the austral summer, between October to April, numbers rise to around 10, with visiting scientists from BAS and international scientific institutions. Bird Island lies off the north-west tip of South Georgia in the Southern Atlantic Ocean.

The projected impacts of climate change on agriculture and fisheries will undermine food production systems in the Pacific. Our Pacific people are also dependent on crops, livestock, agriculture, fisheries, handicrafts for food security and income, and these sectors are also highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Looe folderaccess.com is part of the Whitsand and Looe Bay Marine Conservation Zone and has a variety of precious wildlife habitats including woodland, maritime, grassland, sand, shingle and rocky reef.

- We visited the island at the end of October, which is technically the start of the rainy season, but got very lucky as we had perfect weather.
When it comes to scuba diving, it’s hard to beat Raja Ampat in Indonesia. My favourite activity on Gili Air was hanging out at the many beach-side cafes, bars, and restaurants. Many of them have bean bags or cabanas, decorative lights, live music, and plenty of cheap food and drinks, making it easy for travellers to spend all day living the best island life. I travelled to Karimunjawa in early October, when the weather was pleasantly warm, with a few rain showers. I stayed on the island for three days, and one of them was completely rainy; on the other two, there were rain showers for a few minutes, and that’s it. The Bajo settlement, Pulao Papan, is an unreal cultural experience.

As well as the stunning natural beauty of the phoenix-divers.com, the Kefalonian people are genuinely friendly and possess a marvellous sense of humour. Popularised by the hit Hollywood movie ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’, the island has become a ‘must visit’ destination. However, despite its increasing popularity, it seems able to soak up a lot of people without feeling at all crowded. Ionian Island Holidays Ltd. and VisitGreece.gr in partnership with Cinematographer Ellie Patrikios, take you on a visceral tour of Kefalonia. Please check that we are open before coming down to the lake as seasonal weather may affect opening times and days. You will have a reserved sun lounger for the day and use of a private beach and swim area and can hire paddle boards at a discounted rate of £15 per hour with our island team of staff at your disposal.
The South Pacific is home to thousands of low-lying islands dotted across miles of Pacific Ocean. With rising sea levels, it’s predicted that many of these islands will simply disappear in coming years. They were eventually found about 4km (2.4 miles) south of the coordinates outside the Greek territory that was initially reported some days ago. This is why, Greek police suggest, the migrants had not been found earlier.
The seal study beach is a five-minute walk from the station through thousands of unpredictable seals – not a job for the faint-hearted. It has diverse and concentrated populations of sea birds and fur seals, amounting to one bird or seal for every 1.5m². There are 50,000 breeding pairs of penguins and 65,000 breeding fur seals. Fur seal numbers are now thought to be returning to a similar population size to that before sealing in the early 20th century. A subantarctic island south of the Polar Front, Bird Island has little protection against Antarctic storms from the south-west.
What is special about this course?
I went to this tropical island paradise in late May, during the dry season that stretches from March to December, also a good time for diving. Sulawesi is one of the biggest Indonesian islands and an excellent choice for travellers who want to get off-the-beaten-path. Sulawesi has it all, from stunning beaches and lush jungles to incredible culture and food. I visited this part of Indonesia on an island-hoppingtour of Bali, Lombok and the Gili islands.
I visited Flores in September and had an incredible time with the weather being hot and sunny and the temperature staying in the 80s’ most of the time. The weather in the Bandas is different from the rest of Indonesia. While June to September is dry and sunny elsewhere, the Bandas experience the height of the rainy season.
